Art Project for Shark Week

School is rapidly getting closer and closer. That means I will be working with Charley and his parents again to assist with Art and Genealogy projects for some of his classes this year. He homeschools.

Since Shark Week is rapidly approaching, I thought it would be fun for Charley to make a Diorama for Art class. Shark Week starts on August 9th. That is when the art project will start. The deadline for completion is August 16th.

Make a Diorama featuring none other - - SHARKs!!! 

Write out the steps that you took to put this together from your supply list to the end of completion. Hint: you may want to write these out from the beginning as you start your project, so you do not forget something.

Draw out a rough draft of what you want your project to look like. (This is kind of like a blueprint of your project).

The main shark and the focal point need to be made from an empty vegetable can.

Assemble the entire project on a 2 x 4 piece of wood 18" long.

There need to be 4 other sharks smaller than the one out of the can. (TIP: never have even numbers...always have odds. example, 1, 3, 5, 7, etc.). These can be made from paper towel rolls, toilet paper rolls, tissue paper, brown paper sacks, playdough (did you know you can make your own playdough?), etc. (use your imagination).

Include ocean life in your diorama such as seaweed, school of fish, rocks, floating trash, people, etc. I will leave this up to you what you want to do. But there need to be at least 3 additional elements besides the sharks.

Paint the sharks above. Be sure to include a backdrop of some sort. (a piece of material (an old curtain, a sheet, or blue paper to give the illusion of water).

Add the sharks to your Diorama with either sturdy sticks or small dowel rods (these can be found at Lowes or Home Depot). You might even find some at Walmart.

Be sure to use the proper adhesive. I think Gorilla Glue or something along those lines would be the perfect glue for this project (use it sparingly) and use it with parental oversight in a well-vented area.

Once you have finished your project in its entirety, let it completely dry.

Send me a copy of your blueprint, supplies used, and the steps you took to make your Diorama. Lastly, do not forget to send me a photograph of your Diorama.

A - to - Z Challenge

Today's letter is C = CARDS, handmade

I enjoy paper crafting. I began scrapbooking in my teen years.

I enjoy scrapbooking, making junk journals, creating loaded envelopes, or even creating a folio of some kind. Other papercrafts I enjoy are making tags, layered embellishments, doing mixed media and I also dabble in altered art. But CARDS??? oh my....they are a thorn in my side. 

Here are a few of the handmade cards I have made in the past.

I don't claim to be a card maker by any sense of the word, but I try.

My Feet Were Made For Walking

For the month of April, I've accepted the A - Z Challenge. After pondering what kind of topics, I wanted to highlight during this challenge, I settled on crafting. Over the course of this month, each day I will write about something pertaining to the alphabet letter for that day. A - Z. There will be 4 days in the end that I'll use as random crafting spots.

Day 1: 

The letter is A - ALTERED ART

I chose to alter a shoe. I'll be using one of a set of two high-heels of my daughter.

To begin, I gently sanded and scuffed up the shoe, the sole and the heel parts. The reason I did this, was so the other mediums such as primer and paint would adhere better. 

Next, I began painting the shoe. I wanted to make something

The next step I did was decide what I wanted to do with the open area of the shoe. I decided upon turning the complete project into a ring and jewelry holder. I measured out a piece of foam, then cut it down to fit inside of the open area. I adhered it in place with wet glue. 

After the glue dried, I continued working on the shoe itself. I added fringe from the open area near the toes all the way around to the other side. At the back of the shoe, I added a purple bow with a pearl inset. I added a strand of lace over the toe area on I also adhered a strand of pearls along the open area using my hot glue gun. On the heel spike, I wrapped soft purple bling there and glue it with the hot glue gun as well.  

I finished up altering the shoe by placing large silk flowers that I had in my stash to make the shoe pop. 

Anything can be altered if you think outside of the box. I love bringing the twists and turns to my crafting projects. Sometimes, I even amaze myself!
