Day 10 The Color of the Day is PINK

The prompt for today in the Color of the Day Challenge is PINK. I have never been a pink kind of person, but I have several friends who loves the color very much. 

I have crafted many things in shades of pink. Today was no exception. While working in my Glue Book, I decided to do a page in 'pink'. This Glue Book I was working in only has pages that have napkins incorporated into them. 

As I was preparing the page I was going to craft on, the song, YOU SAY by Lauren Daigle started playing on Pandora. I continued to ink the page in colors of soft pink, soft green, and yellow. I wanted to pull from the colors in the napkin I was going to be using. The colors are exceptionally soft, but I like the look of the background. The song playing in the background, I thought it would be neat to incorporate the song into my page. I grabbed a piece of tea-stained paper and placed it in my printer. 

After it printed off, I tore the edges of the paper and inked them in a darker shade of pink. I placed the song on the page and began placing the napkin choice where I wanted it placed. As you see in the photo below, the napkin has greens, yellows, soft pinks, darker pinks, and a touch of blue in it. 

I finished the page out with a stamped image that says, "I Believe". It is at the bottom of the napkin. PERFECT and pretty in PINK!

Self Love

Today starts another 30-day challenge in the world of blogging. This particular challenge is called, "Self Love". It is being hosted by Pam Allen, Pinkmamas Place.

Thinking about this particular challenge, I wanted to also have a hands-on book of some sort where I can craft "self-love".

I will be using an altered composition book for the daily challenge prompts.

Step 1: Choose a composition book

Step 2: cover the composition book with something else. I used a blue butterfly paper from my supplies. I measured and trimmed the paper down to cover the front AND back covers

Step 3: I added the lace to the front and the back near the spine

Step 4. I played around with different embellishments. I settled on a cluster of flowers and a large metallic butterfly broach

Step 5: I added a cluster of things up in the right-hand corner that tied into the cluster at the bottom

Step 5. I ended with the title, "Cherish Life"

I'm ready for this challenge...after all, we all can benefit from self-love, self-help, and a whole Lotta love!

My WASHI collection

Today's letter in the A to Z Challenge is W. Staying with the crafting theme I chose for this challenge, w is easy for me. WASHI tape!!!! I had never even heard of washi tape until 3 years ago when my daughter bought me a few rolls from the Target dollar bins. oh my, I was in heaven and I needed to get more of these amazing rolls of tape! 

Washi tape is unlike scotch tape because once you place it on a project, it can easily be moved to another position. It is kind of like masking tape, tears easily and doesn't leave a residue behind. Washi tape is thin, durable, and made of natural fibers like hemp and bamboo.  I have found washi tape in just about any store in some way, form, or fashion. They can be in single strips, or in rolls like above. Washi tape can be narrow, wide, and in every color and theme, a person can think of. They ARE amazing and fun to use in crafting projects! What's even better is they are INEXPENSIVE!!! 

I've used washi tape on scrapbook layouts, on cards, on tags, in mixed media. I've even used washi tape in my glue books like this page. (I'm no Michael D'Angelo, so please don't laugh at my artwork!) LOL

I have two different strips of washi tape on this page. One at the to that says, "HELLO SUNSHINE" and one at the bottom that says, " LIVE - LOVE - LAUGH".

I enjoy having washi tape in my crafting supplies and I'm guilty, when I go into stores now - I look for unusual rolls of washi tape that I can add to my crafting supplies.

S is for Stamps

SOME of my stamp Collection

Thinking about the next letter in line on the A to Z Challenge for the month of April, today - it's S. When I planned the month out with my topics I wanted to write about, I had something different and decided since I wasn't feeling all that well - I'd shift the topic for today.

S is for Stamps. Rubber and Acrylic stamps...these are used by crafters young and old. Most of my stamps were purchased through Facebook Buy and Sell sights, while a few others were inherited from an Aunt a few years ago. I have bought new stamps myself in the past.

I'm not a big stamp user as I just haven't been able to get the hang of it. I get more aggravated when I use them than I find joy. Yet, I keep them in my supplies. I do however use them in my journals that I create. In fact, I was looking through my stamps yesterday and saw a few that I want to use in the next journal I make. It's for a friend...

Many of my stamps are from Stampin' Up. A few are from Spellbinders and Simon Says. I also have some from Tim Holtz and Anna Griffin.

If I am honest, I enjoy using acrylic stamps over the rubber ones. I can't sit here and tell you why I prefer them over the rubber ones other than, I don't make mistakes with them like I do with the others. If any of you have used stamps before, you will agree that stamping is unforgiving. If you make a mistake - sometimes, it can't be undone. I can't tell you how many scrapbook layouts I've messed up because my stamping didn't do well. Talk about having some serious internal discussions with self!!! At that point, I'd have to reach for other embellishments or something to cover up those booboos!!! Frustrating isn't the word especially when I had spent hours upon hours creating a beautiful layout - only to have it destroyed by a stamped image. I quickly put away my stamps and ink.

Last year, I was introduced to the Mini Misti. I want to eventually invest in the larger one. It helps a crafter like me place the stamp and the paper in just the right place. It is flawless. The only downside is, I have the 'mini'. I only use it for tags and smaller pages versus the larger projects.

I have watched tutorial after tutorial in hopes of honing my technique - somewhere though, I am having a mental block as to exactly 'how' to use rubber stamps. Maybe one day I'll get the hang of it, but in the meantime...they are on display!

G is for GLUEBOOK

Continuing with my theme of CRAFTING - today, I'm going to talk about 'Gluebooks'. I had not ever heard of glue books until a young lady introduced them to my Crafting/Swapping group that I adminned last year.

A glue book literally can be any type of book you want to use. It could be paper in a binder. It could be an old or new book that you convert over to a glue book. You might choose to use an old magazine. You can even use composition books. 

I'll be showing you several of my glue books in this post. It's funny, in all reality of things - when I went to pull the books I was going to show you, I've actually had glue books in place for years! Just never called them that. 

Gluebooks - what are they? One definition is, it's a type of journal, created by gluing down everyday items such as magazine images, labels, tickets, cash register receipts—whatever paper inspiration falls into the artist's hands. Another definition is a glued collage journal. Both definitions are correct. 

There really isn't a right or wrong way to create a gluebook. It's the creator's perspective of how they see things. 

I have several different gluebooks in progress now. I get my words, phrases, letters, pictures, and other random stuff - from everyday things that come in the mail. You know, those junk ads that usually find their way into the File 13 bin!!! I also tear and cut things from magazines, too. 

where I find things for my Glue Books

I look for things that can be put with other letters and phrases. For instance, see the image on the left and on top of the pile is the word, "Thanks" and something else written with it - I might take that and put in on the top part of a page I'm working on and then add to it...in fact, that particular phrase will more than likely end up in my Gratitude gluebook.

The inside of my Gratitude gluebook journal is a work in progress. It actually started out as something else and after working on a few pages, I realized it was a book of things I'm thankful for, so I switched up the cover. The book I used for my Gratitude gluebook was an old devotional. On the bottom of the pages, are inspirational quotes for a particular day. I'll leave those in place as I use them as inspiration for the page I create. 

Here are two pages from my Gratitude gluebook. The one on the right has a Project Life card on it. I'm actually still working on that page. I'm going to add more color and a few things I've torn out of magazines.

This particular book is actually a watercolor book that has about 100 pages in it. It is bound with a metal wire and is rather large. In it, I use napkins, inks, colored pencils, colored markers, and torn out letters or phrases. I love crafting with napkins. Here are a few of my pages in this gluebook.

On the background of the next four pages, I used distress Inks. Then I placed napkins on the pages and added the extras. (words, a cluster of flowers, eyelash fibers, tags, etc.) The one that says "dream BIG", I incorporated washi tape.

 The page here I used several different quotes to make my page. I used colored pencils in the background. Looking at these pages, you can see there really isn't anything to it. If you think back to my post for the letter F (Franken Pages), I talked about using up scrap pieces of paper. Those could definitely work in gluebooks as well! Fill those pages with color by using scrap paper, then add a quote or a few letters to make a unique collage! Just have fun...after all, that's what crafting is all about. To me anyway...

A gluebook that was started and sent to me was this next one. It is an altered composition book. I work in it from time to time...

 Another composition book that incorporated a napkin on the cover. This one too was sent to me. I'm going to write in this one and from time to time, add a few glued items to the pages.

The last gluebook I want to share with you to show another way to make them is one that was sent to me by a friend who lives in Washington State. She used a regular book and turned into a journal type gluebook. She started a few pages and I will finish the book out as I can.

Below is the cover, to the left of the book my friend sent to me. She covered the existing cover with a napkin, added the rosette, and a piece of lace and put the closure on it.

The page to the right here is a vintage greeting card. She incorporated it because of my love for violins. I was an accomplished violinist back in the day! I have crafted on a few of the pages in this Gluebook journal.

These are my gluebooks! So you see, they aren't hard to make and anyone could do them. Young and old alike.

I hope you will try your hand at creating one, two, or even three...I think I have 10 different ones just waiting to be finished. I don't work in them all the time, just when I feel like it. I find pulling out the bag of letters, words, and phrases I've cut out or torn out, grabbing one of my gluebooks, and sitting down to work on a few pages from time to time is very relaxing and therapeutic. We can all use a little relaxation these days, right?

Grab you a book, a magazine, some glue, and a paintbrush and start your very own gluebook.
