Ten Things of Thankfulness - Falling Into Place

Hello, my Ten Things of Thankfulness Friends...it has been a while since I posted here. Nevertheless, I have been around reading many of your posts.

It is the tenth month of 2020. I suppose the year is "falling into place". Well, I am not convinced it has been the right place - but nonetheless, here we are.

Thinking about all that I am thankful for these days and the weeks/month I have missed joining in on the Ten Things of Thankfulness I thought I would get a head start tonight and write my post.

Fall is in the air. #10 - I love Fall. I am thankful we are almost finished with this year. It has been a year that will go down in the books. How many of you have written about it on your family trees? I have since I lost my mother this year. Not to COVID 19, but to cancer. I am thankful she is not here to see the chaos in our world these days. She would be a nervous wreck!

Picking up the pieces. #9 - I have so many projects in the works. Many of which have been tucked away in boxes left unpacked. For the last two months, I have been determined to empty those boxes and finish those projects. I have made progress. Here is a Junk Journal from one of my daughter's trips a few years back. They have not gotten the photos printed off, but at least the ephemera is no longer in the box and is now in the Journal headed to their home! (they can add their own pictures). LOL

I am thankful I have begun crafting more and more during the last two months. It has brought joy back into my life.

Sprouting Up! #8 - you are getting too big for your britches "little" guy! How many of you remember my grandson Caiden? Well, he is not so little anymore. He is almost 8 months old and thinks he is too big for his britches. He has been wanting to stand more and more and attempts to let go as if he could just start walking across the room. He never ceases to amaze me. I have enjoyed seeing him daily for the last two months. In fact, my days/nights have been consumed with him since his daddy has been working out of state.  That changed two weeks ago due to accepting a promotion in a new position. We are all very thankful that daddy will now be working in town for his new position. (I know my daughter is VERY thankful).

Life. #7- Webster's Dictionary states that Life means, "the sequence of physical and mental experiences that make up the existence of an individual". I have had my fair share of both physical and mental experiences in life. Many of which I wish I could turn the clock back in time to create a different outcome. How many of you feel that way? I have learned though, everything in life happens for a reason. Maybe not necessarily for us, the individual living through the situation - but sometimes we go through situations so that others can see our resilience, our strength, our determination, our faith, and our hope. I am thankful I HAVE had many of those moments in life. Sometimes though, I need to be reminded of them.

Thankfulness. #6 - There is not a day that goes by that I am not thankful for something. Lately, it has been those small blessings that appear when I least expect them.

Friendships. #5 - Many friends have come and gone through life. It is nice to know though, that even through distance - just a simple hello goes a long way. Thank you!

Walking with my ancestors. #4 - I have not been able to devote much time to working on my family tree as I would like the last couple of months due to watching my grandson. Last month, I received an email from a lady who unbeknownst to me would end up being my 4th cousin. She wrote to me in ancestry to inquire how I was related to a particular person in my family tree. When I replied to her inquiry, the next message I received from her was a statement that went like this..."I am trying to locate my birth father, can you help me?" Again, I replied and in a matter of one week, we were able to figure out who her birth father was. He had no clue she even existed. Over Labor Day, they met one another face to face and she even had the opportunity of meeting her grandfather who is in his 90's. How cool is that!!! I am thankful I was able to help her put the pieces together so they could "fall" into place.

Becoming. #3 - Have you ever wondered who you were to be or how you got to where you are today? I have many times. In fact, there have been times I knew I was on the right path in life until the crossroads took a detour. None the less, life has always been about lessons learned for me. Each day, I strive to become a better person than I was the day before. Sometimes I succeed and other times I fail. That is the beauty of becoming...it is always a 'transformation'. I am thankful I have had individuals in my life who have not given up on me even though I have given up on myself a time or two. (believe it or not...I AM human!) LOL

Falling into place. #2 - have you ever worked on a Jigsaw Puzzle? Were all the pieces there so you could finish the masterpiece of the art? What if one piece were missing...the puzzle would not be complete, would it. It amazes me how each piece is created to lock into place with another piece to create a beautiful image of something or another. Growing up, I sat my fair share at the kitchen table - squinting my eyes looking for the 'missing' piece to bring an image to life. Hours upon hours. Trying this piece and that piece to no avail. outlining the edges first, then working tirelessly to fill in the missing pieces. I am thankful that when things in life 'fall into place", they fit right! There is no second-guessing. There is no trying to decide if it goes there or not. That is when I know there is peace...because it all works together.

Ten Things of Thankfulness. #1 - - Thank you everyone for allowing me to share my blog with you today. I look forward to reading your posts and look forward to reading your comments on mine.

  2. Great post! A good exercise for all of us to do. It's been a crazy year, but we ALL have something we can be thankful for, right? Condolences on the lost of you mom. That had to be hard on top of everything else in the crazy year.

    1. Thank you Angie! A crazy year is definitely an understatement for sure. Yes, we all should be able to say at least one thing we are thankful for daily...sometimes though, I think life gets in the way and clouds our thankfulness with hatred, bitterness and vendettas. I'm so glad I am 'not' the person I was many, many years ago because I would be one of 'those' people today if I was...

Thank you for your kind words with regard to mom.

      Until next time,
      Have a wonderful weekend!

  4. This is such an inspiring post! I am so glad you were able to help the lady looking for her birth father. All your other gratefuls are amazing too and remind me that even in these crazy times, we still have many blessings in life.

I am sorry to hear of the loss of your mother, but in a way it's a blessing in disguise that she doesn't have to witness the state the world is in now.

  5. This is an excellent list. As a side note, I take great joy in putting together jigsaw puzzles. I ordered so many while quarantined in the spring. I still have several to work on bc I bought so many from Amazon! :D

  9. That is so cool what you were able to do in #4!
This year of 2020 has been filled with COVID-19 experiences that I felt needed to be written in my journal as much for me as for posterity.
Your crafting zeal is amazing and reflects a lot of hours of labor.
Little Caiden is really growing up! So cute.

  10. As I read through your list of thankful I found my head nodding in agreement, It seems that we have experience life in a similar way I have come to the same conclusions about the meaning and the purpose of it. With every experience we learn! I have recently taking up crafting again too, this time teaching myself how to quilt at long last, I agree with you but any kind of craft work is great therapy, it lifts our spirits to make something beautiful!

Your grandson is a doll and I’m sure you enjoyed the time you get to spend with him. I am delighted that you got to help someone reconnect with their family member, yet another experience we share, and it warms the heart when people are reunited in a positive way and relationships can be built upon it. We can never have too much family in our lives! I had to smile about the missing puzzle piece because not long ago I completed 1000 piece puzzle and seriously had one piece missing. I came up with a clever solution for it which I will write about in a future blog post, But I totally agree with your analysis, that when things are right they all fit together smoothly to make the perfect picture. Nothing that has to be forced is ever a good outcome!
