This time last year after a seven day stent in the hospital for another asthma and COPD exaserbation (non smoker)...I was referred to an Allergist for testing because I had several inpatient visits in a very short time frame.
He tested me for ever allergy under the sun...poked, poked, poked and poked some more. Nothing...then he said, we'll test allergies through blood work as it's more concrete. Yet again...no allergies.
When I explained how my symptoms were, hard breathing, no air movement, coughing, hard to talk for any length of time, can't walk from one room to the next without being completely depleted of air...he looks at me and says, "it looks like a duck, it quacks like a duck- BUT it isn't a duck". He said, you have severe, environmental Asthma and you are correct when you say, you don't have breath to talk...you literally DO NOT HAVE A RESERVE OF AIR IN YOUR LUNGS.
When I tell people I don't have it in me to repeat myself, I get crazy looks, etc.
Well, here I am yet again...laid up in the hospital because of a severe asthma exaserbation.
I'm on multiple breathing treatments throughout the day, orsl steroids, IV steroids, antibiotics, this med, that med and NO relief. Now my lab work is showing elevation for a possible clogged artery and the conversation has started that I may need to be transferred to a larger hospital. Currently, I'm in what they call. Micro site.
The staff is wonderful and very attentive...they are definitely Johnny on the spot!!!
Being a Micro Site facility, they aren't equipped with the typical cafeteria. They have frozen meals available. There is a menu with wonderful meal choices.
I've had the opportunity of trying several different items...I must say, they are quite tasty being prepackaged and frozen.
For my breakfast choice on Monday, I chose the first item listed under the breakfast column and a bowl of Oatmeal.
It was so delish, I had another bowl of Oatmeal for my mid morning snack!
For lunch, I chose the Chicken Breast with a bowl of Italian pasta with mixed veggies. Another score!! Yes, I even had a Coke.
I've been drinking Cranberry juice and water since I arrived on Sunday morning.
Last night I fudged a little from the menu.
I had friends come pay a visit and they brought me a loaded baked potato from Spring Creek BBQue. Yum, yum, yum.
This morning, I had a box of Special K and strawberries. Just because one is visiting the hospital, doesn't mean eating has to be different. I've enjoyed the different meals I chosen.
We are waiting on the doctor now..it appears my wheezing isn't responding to the treatments and a few other things have reared up. Blood levels are elevated for possible clogged arteries as mentioned above and temperature is on the rise with elevated blood pressure even with BP meds on board.
It will be decided sometime today, if I'll be transferred to a larger facility.
We have rain coming in for the next few days...so maybe I just need to find an air tight bubble to live in.
Have a great day!
