Day 16 Name a Song that Is a Classic - Song Challenge

I'm playing catch up once again...so I'm going to make this short and sweet.

Day 16 in the Song Challenge hosted by The Mommies Review/Glenda Cates was name a song that is a classic favorite.

The song that came to mind was IMAGINE by John Lennon.

When was the last time you stopped whatever it was you were doing and listened to the lyrics of a song as they were sung? Words have a way of stirring up emotions, thoughts, and feelings inside of us. Imagine is one of those songs for me.

Read these words with me.

IMAGINE
by John Lennon

Imagine there's no heaven
It's easy if you try
No hell below us
Above us only sky
Imagine all the people
Living for today

Imagine there's no countries
It isn't hard to do
Nothing to kill or die for
And no religion too
Imagine all the people
Living life in peace

You may say I'm a dreamer
But I'm not the only one
I hope someday you'll join us
And the world will be as one

Imagine no possessions
I wonder if you can
No need for greed or hunger
A brotherhood of man
Imagine all the people
Sharing all the world

You may say I'm a dreamer
But I'm not the only one
I hope someday you'll join us
And the world will live as one

Have you ever wondered what John Lennon was writing about in this song?
Imagine was the most successful single of his career. The song has been covered by artists in every genre as well as being sung in the biggest events across the globe.
The impact of the song is unquestionable. But did you know disguised in the lyrics about peace, love and it's flowing piano melody is a collection of edgy, 'dangerous' ideas that challenge society as we know it?
The song that has become an anthem all over the world is actually full of controversial lyrics and radical ideas. Lennon once called it "Working Class Hero' for conservatives," and indeed, it challenges the status quo at it most fundamental.

Let's look at the words in Stanza 2 again...

Imagine there's no countries
It isn't hard to do
Nothing to kill or die for
And no religion too
Imagine all the people
Living life in peace

Thinking about our world today living with the Coronavirus Pandemic, everyone has been put on the same playing field. There isn't this person or that person and our worlds as we know them have literally been stopped in their tracks. Lives have been put on hold. We have gone back to the very basics of living wondering what the future holds.
As I reread the lines that say 'nothing to kill or die for and no religion too' - many people have had their lives uprooted to death of a loved one being all alone. Churches, Synagogues, and Mosques have been forced to close their doors. Yet, people still found ways to praise their Higher Power or their God.

Never in a million years, did we think something out of our control would literally bring our lives and our Nations to a HALT, but it did.

Let's look at the words in the last Stanza...

Imagine no possessions

I wonder if you can
No need for greed or hunger
A brotherhood of man
Imagine all the people
Sharing all the world

There has been much greed seen in the last few months with simple things like toilet paper, hand sanitizers, and wipes along with other things. We have seen people worrying about where their next meal will come from. Yet, again - we have all be put on the same playing field in life. There has been no respecter of persons where the Coronavirus Pandemic is concerned. It has affected the wealthiest human being to the lowliest. It has affected the oldest living person to the youngest. It just happened and all across the world, we shared the same fears, the terror of it, and the ugly truth that it was and is completely out of our control.

Lennon's song talked about being a dreamer. I don't know about you, but I have dreamed a great deal in the last three months. Wondering what life will be like when all of this pandemic stuff becomes nothing but a memory in our minds. Could it really be just that? Really just a memory?

Is the normal as we knew it gone forever? Will there be a new normal? If so, what will it look like?

Yes, I'm a dreamer and one day I hope that life will be better than it was before all of this crazy madness hit called Coronavirus. But if not, we will adjust what needs to be adjusted - tighten up our belts, pick up the pieces and face it all head-on. In the end, none of it really matters as long as we just let it be.
